I am amazed at all of the talented women in this workshop.  We saw some terrific presentations and imovies.  I am looking forward to using some of the programs I learned about this morning.  Thank you Mary Lee for the excellent workshop.  PLWP is a terrific opportunity for teachers to learn very useful information for the classroom.

The first writing activity we learned about was Golden Lines. Then I tried my hand at writing a Golden Line Poem. I wanted to get lines from different poems.  I found this frustrating because I needed a book of poetry or a handout with several poems.  I did not have enough time to do a good job on my poem.  I think I could use this activity in my class.  This could be used instead of just writing a report on mammals or reptiles etc.  I enjoyed seeing the students’ work. The presentation was good and easy to follow. I understand the process and I could instruct my students in writing a Golden Line Poem.  Always good to get more tools for teaching.

I enjoyed the triadic writing activity.  This was an easy piece for me to write.  Michele did a good job presenting.  I liked the way she narrowed the field and gave us two choices.  It saved time and helped me to get focused quickly.  I could use this in my room.  It would fit well when we study the planets.  We could use Greek mythology for the first part.

After lunch I worked on my digital story.  Next, we worked on our group presentation.  It seemed to go well.  I have good group members.  Then I went back to work on my digital story.  It took a lot longer to put the narration in than I thought it would.

I do see merit in blogging if all students would participate.  However, I am not sure this would work well for Jr. High students.   I do worry about Jr. High students bully one another.  I don’t want to provide them with another mode for bullying.   I fear students would not take this seriously, nor put forth much time or effort.  I don’t think I would  use blogging for science at my level.  I think it would work much better for high school and college.  I don’t have enough computers in my room and several don’t have computers at home.  In order to use blogging, I would have to take time out of class to go to the computer lab.

This morning I learned that heath-care personnel make mistakes.  They pay no attention to dates and to what report should be typed.  I found this morning very disappointing.  I wanted to know if I needed my gallbladder removed.  This afternoon I have been working on movie maker.  I like the program but I felt stressed because I am behind everyone.  So now I am playing catch up.  I was thrilled that I was part of the group  reporting on using whiteboards in the classroom.

Real Name Poem

My name is

The feminine form of John.

It means one who loves God.

I never liked my name as a child

For who would want to be

Plain Jane.

I’ve put aside my childish thoughts.

I know my parents chose quite well.

God guides those who

Go to him to dwell.

Hello world!
